AAMFT and MAMFT Clinical Approved Supervisor

I am a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT), certified by The Minnesota Board of Marriage and Family Therapy since 2006. I graduated from Northeastern Boston University, Graduate School of Bouve College of Pharmacy & Health Sciences, and completed a post degree in Family Psychology from Saint Thomas University, graduate School of Professional Psychology. I finished Ph.D. coursework from the University of Minnesota and completed a three-year internship in Medical Family Therapy at N. Bud Grossman Center for Memory Research and Care, Fairview Medical Center, and Wayne Caron Family Caregiving Center at the University of Minnesota. Additionally, I am an adjunct assistant professor in the Department of Marriage and Family Therapy at Saint Mary’s University since 2007 and a senior lecturer adjunct at the University of Wisconsin Stout University since 2014 where I teach marriage and family therapy courses to graduate students.

My approach at Twin Cities Mental Health & Couples Center is based on a collaborative, integrative, holistic, and specialized process tailored to your needs. People seek therapy for many reasons such as difficulties in their personal or professional lives caused by current stressors or unresolved traumas, conflicts that cause fear, shame, anger, sadness, helplessness, and the inability to concentrate, function, or be fully engaged in life. I work collaboratively with individuals, couples, & families to help face their challenges through creating new insight, forming solutions to problems, and creating action plans. Additionally, I practice EMDR therapy and find it useful for healing from trauma and areas where clients experience “being stuck.” My practice is based on years of well-established evidence based effective treatments.

Areas of interest include but are not limited to: couple communication, sexual/emotional intimacy, Medical Family Therapy, Alzheimer’s and Dementia related diseases, PTSD, anxiety & depression, mental illness, ambiguous grief & loss, interracial marriage, and cross cultural counseling.

My subspecialty is Medical Family Therapy (Med FT), which is the application of systems theory in the form of a bio-psycho-social-spiritual systems approach to conducting psychotherapy with patients and their families who experience physical health problems, including illness, trauma, or disability. At Twin Cities Mental Health & Couples Center, we are experienced in helping to address the systemic interactions among patients, their families, their doctors, surgeons, nurses, and other allied healthcare workers. Our treatment plan may include enhancing the day-to-day functioning of both the patient and their family, improving their ability to cope with symptoms (both chronic and acute), improving communication with their healthcare providers, developing acceptance of incurable health problems, and increasing the ability to make necessary lifestyle changes such as diet and exercise regimens.
